Hi, I'm Gary.
My journey with chess began when my father introduced me to the game at a young age. I played in school and provincial tournaments and developed a lifelong appreciation for chess, even though I never had formal coaching.
Like many adults, life eventually became busy.
Work, responsibilities, and other priorities meant chess was something I returned to whenever I could. Each time I came back, I found myself asking the same questions:
"What should I study?"
"Why am I not improving?"
"Am I spending my limited time on the right things?"
Those questions led me to years of reading books, taking online courses, watching videos, and learning from experienced players, coaches, and content creators.
Along the way, I realized that most adult players don't struggle because they lack motivation.
They struggle because they lack structure.
ChessDelights grew from that realization.
Today, I combine what I've learned through my own journey, conversations with stronger players, and continuous research to create resources that help adult learners build sustainable improvement habits—not just consume more content.
I'm still a student of the game, and that's exactly why I enjoy sharing what works, what doesn't, and the lessons I continue to learn along the way.
At ChessDelights, we believe:
These principles shape every article, guide, video, and resource we publish.
